THE LIONS ARE THE NFC NORTH FAVORITES?
Dan Pompeii has some interesting quotes from a “NFL scout” in today’s Tribune. Beyond such brilliance as:
“The Packers could go as Brett Favre goes.”
“I’m not as sold on Minnesota.”
“Defensively, if Tommie Harris can make it all the way back, they’re (Bears) still pretty good.”
We also get this tasty nugget about the juggernaut that is the Detroit Lions:
“I would rank the Lions first. I think they have the individual talent to make a run. If Jon Kitna plays smart and makes good decisions, and if Calvin Johnson is as good as advertised, they can have a good offense. A lot will fall on how well Kevin Jones comes back or if T.J. Duckett or Tatum Bell steps up at tailback. On defense, they are as good as anybody up front. The back end is solid but not great.”
Off the record I’m pretty sure the next quote was, “Dude–after we finish smoking this we should totally go to McDonald’s. Dollar Value Meal homie!!”
Earlier in the article Pompeii pointed out that “Jon Kitna accounted for 31 turnovers—highest in the league and six more than Grossman. He also was your pass rusher’s best friend, going down on sacks 63 times—most in the NFL by 14.”
If the Lions win the NFC North I will be more than shocked. I have no words for it. Will anyone pick them to win the division?

I totally agree with Pompeii’s assessment of the NFC North. His understanding of this division is second to none. He obviously knows more about football than anyone else in the free world. Jon Kitna will rise from the ashes of last season and become Joe Montana! Or how about Tony Montana! SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND! FIRE MILLEN MANG!
To be fair, it wasn’t Pompeii but the scout he was talking to.
I don’t think there is a good team in that division anymore.
Yeah that scout is a moron, the Bears are going to win the Super Bowl and blow through this porous division. The Lions…gimme a break.
I do think the Lions offense should be pretty explosive, but people say that every year. And every year the Lions suck. But definitely some great insight in that article!
