The guy was a hard nosed player, and the greatest defensively in his prime. But he seems to need a great deal from the management in order to be happy. The Cards need to deal him, even if it only means washing their hands of him. Once he's in Milwaukee he'll have two or three decent seasons, if healthy, before Ned Yost says enough is enough. I don't think the Cards are all that good and it's obvious the team is in a state of transition right now. Especially with their ace (Carpenter) out for the year. I was shocked that La Russa re-signed and I think he'll eventually regret it. As for Rolen, I don't think he's the same player he was a few years ago. I just know that if he's healthy, he can still be one of the best 3rd baseman in the league and that is why I wouldn't just trade him away to appease him. They can't get much for him now anyway. I'm a journalist and can be TOO objective sometimes since I AM a Cubs fan. :) But I've watched Rolen a lot since my wife is a Cardinals fan (yes, we need couples therapy often, LOL!) and he's clearly not the same player he was. He's way too stiff, pretty characteristic for someone with back problems. He may MAKE every play hit to him, but his range is for crap. I hate to see guys go down because of injuries, so I hope he can recover. But I really don't think he's going to be able to at this point in his career.
