ZONER’S MONDAY MORSELS

11

Celebrating day 5 of the Drew Gooden era…to the morsels.

In this edition of “Enjoy, Cincinnati!”, Dusty is bringing clogging back.

“I’m big on driving in runs and scoring runs. Guys in the middle should score about close to equal to what they drive in. On-base percentage, that’s fine and dandy. But a lot of times guys get so much into on-base percentage that they cease to swing. It’s becoming a little bit out of control.

“What you do is run the pitcher’s count up, that helps,” Baker said. “You put him in the stretch, that helps. But your job in the middle is to either score them or drive them in. The name of the game is scoring runs. Sometimes, you get so caught up in on-base percentage that you’re clogging up the bases.”

I’ve got to get my Reds/Cubs tickets today. Moving over in the NL Central, Cards’ skipper TLR wanted to sign Barry Bonds to hit behind Albert Pujols. Would that have been the grumpiest 3-4 combo in history?

“When you look at somebody dangerous to hit behind Albert, Barry was the guy I thought of,” La Russa said. For whatever reason, at the general manager or the ownership level, they didn’t agree.” Whatever reason? Is La Russa sipping before the spring training workouts. What will TLR do without a roider this year? Oh wait he still has…never mind.

Speaking of mullets, there may be some glaring omissions, but you’ll likely enjoy “The Top 11 Mullets in Sports“.

I know my pal Tim Ellsworth is heading to Bejing to cover the olympics. Appears they have done a great job of preparing for the games with one exception: restrooms. Not only that, their style of, uh, excreting metabolic waste is a bit different than us. Throwing used TP into the garbage can? What’s wrong with those people?

Why is Pujols grumpy? Serious question…I have no idea why you think that.

  2. The Zoner says:

He’s surly. It’s been pretty well-documented that he’s not the best sport and kind of a grump. He was a crab when Howard won the MVP, disrespects opposing players when he loses (Glavine, Marquis), and gets bent out of shape when questioned about his age and roids and according to STL media is fairly short with them. And that’s off the top of my head.

  3. dhaab says:

I’m sure none of your feelings about Pujols are swayed by your unnatural and sometimes disturbing hatred for the Cardinals. Comparing him to Bonds is ridiculous, but you already know that.

The ONLY thing that started Pujols surliness towards certain media members is the whole steroids scandal. Many of them were speculating about his use of them with no evidence at all. It would have pissed me off too, especially if I was as clean as he is.

As far as disrespecting, the Glavine thing stemmed from Alberts competitiveness. He apologized for his comments the next day.
Marquis? LOL Please. You have to be talented to be disrespected.

  4. The Zoner says:

Drop by a few Cards forums/blogs and you’ll find the same info. You can’t say the ONLY thing when I just listed 4 examples. So if you are competitive you can be a jerk? He’s a baby. Deal with it.

  5. dhaab says:

Yeah, and I showed that your examples are mostly BS.

You have absolutely no perspective concerning anything Cardinal related. None.

I gotta say, I almost root for the Cubs to win a World Series just to get Cubs fans like you off the bitter train.

  6. The Zoner says:

You couldn’t be more wrong. The only thing you showed is who really is the homer here–you. The Cards stuff is all in fun. Like I said, many Cards fans–as well as the rest of the baseball world–acknowledge that he is what he is. All the examples I pointed to are true. If you choose not to accept that, fine. Maybe you don’t believe McGwire took PEDs either.

  7. dhaab says:

I just find it hilarious that you automatically label someone who you don’t even know as childish, a poor sport and grumpy because of a few incidents in their lives. Are you perfect? Do you never have bad days when you act differently than you normally do?
Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

  8. The Zoner says:

Uh oh–my favorite–non-Christians rocking the Bible verses!

  9. dhaab says:

And the author was named Matthew just like you. :)

  10. The Zoner says:

Just a quick note on that: calling someone a baby or saying they are surly is hardly a judgment on them as a person. They are just traits. Ok then.

  11. dhaab says:

    Nice rationalization. (eyes rolling)
