LIKE CLOCKWORK, WOOD INJURED

1

Tip of the hat to MOD for passing along this nugget. Of course he could have sent this to me in December and it probably still would have held true.

From MLB.com:

MESA, Ariz. — Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, who appears to be the front-runner for the closer’s job, was scratched from Wednesday’s game because of lower back spasms. His status was listed as day to day.

“It’s a little bit of a setback but nothing, nothing serious,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Wednesday. “It’s a minor thing he goes through every spring.”

I’d laugh. If I could. His career is a spasm. I found this disturbing: “He did not see a specialist, but received treatment from the Cubs’ medical staff. A team spokesman said Wood wanted to pitch on Wednesday, but was held back as a precautionary measure.”

Screw precautionary measures. If he’s to be the closer let’s see if he can get out there a couple days in a row and actually pitch through some pain. Ok, that may be a bit harsh. But you dig what I’m saying.
