I disagree with you to a degree, Doug. I think Pie is overmatched at the plate, no doubt, but he brings better defense and FAR better range in the outfield than the Edmonds of today. It's true that Pie deserves to get more AB's, though in AAA.

Who knows, maybe Edmonds could end up being better with the Cubs, and maybe he will help the clubhouse a bit. But it isn't as if this team doesn't have some good vibes going already. Jimmy's body is downright brittle at this stage of his career and he's been known to be quite the sulker when he's slumping, so I'll be interested to see what he can do. It's just odd to see him in Cubs blue.

On a side note, how much longer can Dempster keep this up? If he pitches anywhere close to this all summer, the Cubs could win 100 this year.

See, Matty, I can complement the Cubs. :)

I think this is all being blown out of proportion. Even a shell of Edmonds former self is better than Pie. Every time Pie comes to the place I predict a strikeout. Edmonds is a proven winner. This is coming from a guy who hates the Cardinals for so many reasons. Mostly there prick coach. When Edmonds played for the Cardinals I would always worry he was going to get a hit. Him and Pujols were the heart of their team for years. If the Edmonds from a few years ago can come back to the forefront the Cubs are going to be scary good. They will have a offense that can't be beat. I'm a Cubs fan first and whatever can improve them especially with costing next to nothing has to be favorable. Who knows maybe Pie can go from being a Cherry Pie to something I respect enough to pronounce correctly.

I heard ESPN Radio's Jeff Dickerson last night. His sources claim that Edmonds WILL be a Cub soon, in fact he could start as early as tomorrow (Wednesday). Not sure if he was joking or not, or if the info is reliable, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Dude, Edmonds is so so bad. Stick with Pie, it could pan out. JE is nothing but a plug. And he's not good, so i don't see the point.

I never thought this day would happen, but I agree with dhaab (Ouch, that hurt). You can have Edmonds batting .200, or Pie batting .200. But Pie is better defensively, which says something, because Edmonds was one of the best.

Pie will likely be sent down either way. Just curious: where's Kenny Lofton these days?

Have you seen Edmonds play during the past 2 years?
He's a shell of his former self. It's sad.

I think it would be a mistake for the Cubs to sign him, but I understand why they would do it. Pie needs to be sent down. He can't hit big league pitching yet.
