ORTON HAS THE LEAD

3

So says ESPN’s John Clayton.

“Over his four years in the league, Orton has redone himself. His body is different. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner remembers that Orton came into the league as a big shotgun quarterback whose weight would top out in the 240s. Now, he’s about 214. He’s moving better. He has worked on his footwork and improved his accuracy.”

“This is the first time I’ve gone into a camp with a chance to be the opening-day starter,” Orton said. “I’ve been stuck back with the threes in all of my offseasons. We’d have a 24-play period and I’d get four plays, if I was lucky.”

Zoner, months ago you watched “There Will Be Blood” and posted the question: Has there ever be a triumverate of performances by an actor like Daniel Day Lewis’ My Left Foot, Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood. It hit me today, months later, how could we have left Marlon Brando out of the discussion, father of three of the most quotable lines in movie history: On the Waterfront (”I coulda been a contdenda”), Streetcar Named Desire (”Stella!!”), and of course The Godfather (”you don’t kiss my ring, you don’t call me Godfather”). That’s got to be the ultimate triumverate, right?

  3. The Zoner says:

Perhaps so Al. But as I recall the original question pertained to actors of our/my generation. I don’t consider Brando of my own gen.
