GROSSMAN, ORTON STILL BATTLING

2

I did notice a difference in the physique of Rex Grossman in the Bears’ 1st preseason game. Chicago Sports has the story about Grossman spending his offseason training and working out to become the most agile, fit player he can be.

I think it’s of utmost importance that Grossman comes out and makes a major statement against Seattle on Saturday. But perhaps that is where it can get difficult for him. Grossman needs to execute downfield passing to prove his worth. And that’s where he usually gets in trouble.

I’d like to see this new scrambling ability he has. Kyle Orton has zero mobility. If Grossman can use his legs to make plays–and more importantly prevent the bad ones–then I’d rather see him as the starter.

We all love the backup QB. But has Orton ever showed anything that points to him being a very successful pro? He’s got a few games to show the Bears’ brass that he should be the man. Should Grossman come out and drop a few bombs Saturday night, it could be advantage Rex.

If game 2 mirrors game 1 in which both QBs simply ‘managed’ the offense, then Orton still has the leg up.

I think you’ll look back at these QB blogs in a few months and just laugh. Not much talent in either of those players.
