Your frustration is understandable, Zoner. I think your simply trying to find someone to blame for the defensive lapses. However, I think it really is a matter of the players on that side of the ball being either older, overpaid (and possibly not as hungry) or just not having the same abilities because of various injuries.

First off, the Bears have 3 different defensive players being paid QB money. That is pretty crazy when you really think about it. Briggs is still bringing it on most Sundays, but Ogunleye and Urlacher are simply old, overpaid guys who just don’t have the game they used to. As for Tommy Harris (the other overpaid defensive guy), I think his string of leg injuries have robbed him of his quickness.

I will say this, it amazes me how they don’t put pressure on the QB anymore. IMO, that is the biggest reason so many QB’s are going off on them. This week, they actually responded to many critics and didn’t stack the line to stop the run. But all that did was expose them even more.

I really can’t see that team winning more than 3 more games. They’ll kill my Rams next week and many fans will think their back on track, but the schedule is brutal down the stretch and I just can’t see the offense scoring enough points to keep them in games. It seems like the rest of the league is catching on to their TE heavy passing scheme now.

I wasn’t able to see the game at all, and I’m glad I didn’t! There’s at least 3 games they should’ve won and this one they didn’t even show up. I’m a huge Lovie Smith fan, but soon people will begin to get antsy.

Rickhouse- I have no problem at all with them going for it on 2nd down either. But as PV restated, I think it makes no sense at all to trade 1 play for another Packer possession–which they converted. So go for it or don’t.

Dock- I feel for you. That is one of the worst Bears games I have ever seen in my life. And I have seen many bad ones.

PV- other than Brown and 54’s pick, it was indeed a lot of nothing. The whole point of my post is that this is a defense that does not attack. That was not the case in 2005 and I whole-heartedly believe it is the difference between the Lovie Smith/Babich defense and the amalgam of defenses that Rivera ran.

I like your point that if they’re going to throw on 2nd down near the end of the half, then go for it again on 3rd – but it’s just that kind of in-between-ness that always seems to infect their worst performances. The defense is a study in that kind of insecurity of commitment and purpose – it especially looks that way when they don’t get the turnovers, which usually bail them out. But where’s the flying around and havoc-wreaking? Other than a few Mike Brown missiles, not much of that yesterday.

I actually had no problem throwing deep to Hester to end the 2nd. They offense hadn’t done anything up to that point, sometimes you need to take a chance. Of course it didn’t work out, but the resulting field goal it cost them didn’t hurt too much either, since they got killed and all.
