PEAVY REMAINS HOT TOPIC
Paul Sullivan in today’s Tribune:
“The question Dempster must ask himself is: Why should I take a hometown discount when the team is apparently willing to spend more money on Peavy?”
Maybe because Jake Peavy is 4 years younger and much better than Dempster? I’m still not a big believer in Dempster. I’m very curious to see what his command is like next year. He has never been a solid control pitcher, and he hadn’t worked this big of a workload in a long time. And then there is his performance in the playoffs.
Peavy won the Cy Young in 2007 and has led the league in ERA twice. He has led the league in Ks. Since 2004 he has the lowest WHIP of any pitcher in MLB. Simply put, Ryan Dempster is no Jake Peavy. If there is a choice to make, it’s a no-brainer.

Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl
And by Dempster “taking one for the team” and freeing up money for Peavy, it will help his chance at winning a WS.
For the Braves?
Sorry, couldn’t resist…
Um, it’s not really the Cubs choice, though, is it?
um, if re-signing Dempster precludes them from dealing for Peavy, then yes they have a choice.
You’re assuming that Dempster wants to re-sign with the Cubs.
doesnt matter–peavy is going to braves.
Yeah, it’s almost a done deal.
And as I said many times, I have no clue how the Cubs offer was ever even considered to be a competitive one.

Also, looks like the Braves are going to go hard for Dempster too.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs don’t end up with either Peavy OR Dempster in their rotation next year.
That was the article I was referring to. I thought I was th eonly one that reads Sportsline!
I don’t really want Dempster back anyway.
And now this…

It looks as if the Pads couldn’t agree to a deal with either the Braves OR Cubs. Hmmm….the plot thickens.
