WOOD’S BACK AILING, CHICAGO LAUGHS
Thanks to Big D for sending this along. Looks like ol’ Woody has a sore back. Maybe he was trying to pick up all his money.
The Cleveland Indians insist their new closer’s sore back is nothing. But with Kerry Wood, it always seems to be something.
Wood, who had a history of arm injuries with the Cubs, hasn’t thrown off a mound since last weekend because of an aching back and the Indians will rest him for a few more days before he pitches again.
Indians manager Eric Wedge revealed Wood’s back soreness for the first time following Cleveland’s 10-7 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.
“He had a little bit of a sore back, which works out fine this time of camp,” Wedge said. “We’ve been slow-playing him. It’s happened to him in multiple springs, just a little back soreness. We’ll back him up for a few days. It’s absolutely nothing to be concerned about.”
It’s absolutely nothing to be concerned about. In Chicago, both Cubs and Sox fans are laughing heartily. Cubs fans because we’ve heard it/seen it/lived it all before and Sox fans because Wood is now a member of the division rival Indians.
Who would have thought this soon? LOL.. Oh well, at least DeRosa will help Cleveland this year, as Shapiro scrambles around looking for Mark Prior’s phone number…
Honestly, Kerry Wood is, by all accounts, one of the most genuine and humble athletes in sports today. I hope he’s okay and performs just as well this season as he did in the last.
In other baseball news, Milton Bradley left his first Cubs spring training game in the first inning today because of a tight quad muscle.
Karma sucks.
