Good Morning, MLB Fans
We start with the hottest team in baseball — the Red Sox. Boston has now won11 straight after taking down Cleveland 3-1. Jason Bay hit a 3-run home off Kerry Wood in the top of the ninth to give the Red Sox the lead. Wood has our “Line of the Night”:
| IP | H | R | ER | BB | K | PIT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.2 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 22 |
Woody took his first loss of the year and his ERA rose to 7.71. His work has been sporadic due to Cleveland’s record. He has only 8 appearances and just 4 save ops.
On to the best team in baseball — the Cardinals. The Redbirds beat Atlanta 3-2 with great pitching and defense. They turned 2 double plays and Yadier Molina picked off Yunel Escobar. Joel Pineiro worked into the 7th and the bullpen sealed the deal. Rick Ankiel had 2 hits and 2 RBI in the win.The Tigers won their 3rd straight 4-2 over NY. The Yanks have lost 4 in a row, and have spent 2009 winning and losing in small bunches. Magglio Ordonez homered off CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander shut down the Yanks over 7 innings. Sabathia went the distance but took the loss. Fernando Rodney came on and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in the 9th to drive Jim Leyland to crack open a new deck of smokes. Maybe Joe Girardi asked Leyland for a square. Only the Orioles have allowed more runs in all of MLB.
Jose Guillen hit his first 2 homers off the season, and Brian Bannister gave up just 1 run over 7 innings as the Royals beat Toronto 7-1. Much like last year, Bannister is off to a great start. He’s 2-0, 0.69, despite allowing 8 walks against just 3 Ks.
7 homers, 24 runs and 12 pitchers. That was the tally as Philly beat the Nats 13-11. Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez both hit grand slams and Jimmy Rollins added 3 hits and 2 runs. The Phils have won 4 straight and are just a half-game back of the Marlins in the NL East.
Yet another homer for Carlos Pena as the Rays beat the Twins 7-1. Jason Bartlett aslo homered for the Rays. BJ Upton had a hit but is still hitting just .160.

How about Dexter Fowler swiping 5 bags? Tied a rookie record.
FINALLY! Verlander pitches a good game. I hope it’s what he needed to get out of his 9.00 era slump mang! Gotta love seeing the Yanks sucking big time! Also gotta love the Tigers +20 in RS vs RA. This is a much more encouraging start than last years disgrace. FIRE FORD MANG!!!!!!!!!!111
Each time I see Molina pick another guy off of first base, I wonder if some of these teams have scouting reports.
