I laughed about Orton being a solid QB BEFORE the season began. He proved himself very capable of being a solid QB this year. Is he a star? No, but he’s definitely a solid player who can run an offense efficiently.

Honestly, I just think of all the times in the Bears history of BAD QB’s, this was a strange time to make a risky trade for a different QB. Of all the holes in the Bears team right now, QB wasn’t one of the bigger ones. I think it would have made much more sense to go after a great WR like Boldin.

I agree with you PB about some of the talking heads on Chicago sports radio. A few weeks ago most of them were talking about this team being in a rebuilding phase and now suddenly after they get one talented QB, they’re one of the best teams in football. HILARIOUS!

One of the funniest things I’ve heard so far about this trade was from Dan Hampton:

“This takes the Bears from a C minus team to one of the top 5 in the NFL.” I didn’t know that Hampton was a comedian. FIRE FORD MANG!!!!!!!!!11

So before you “LOL”d at the Orton is a solid NFL QB but now his numbers are similar to that of Cutler? Give it up.

It’s funny. If you compare the 2008 numbers of Cutler and Orton next to each other. They’re not that remarkably different.

And the whole Bears fans argument that Angelo will just screw up the first round picks anyway is an absolute joke. Talk about an entire fan base falling all over themselves to try and make a trade look better than it is.

Bottom line is Angelo put a bunch of his chips in for this one player. It’s a ballsy move and one that could pay off big for the Bears. But there is also a possibility that it will hurt this organization going forward. I realize Bears fans don’t want to see that side of it, but it’s very possible.

Zoner, I don’t think the Lions were a real threat in landing Cutler. The Bears don’t have nearly the amount of holes to plug as the Lions. The Lions giving up 2 firsts and a third would have accomplished nothing. In fact it probably would have been devistating. They need serious help on both the defensive and offensive lines, which they will need to do through good drafting. Now that Millen is gone, perhaps that can happen. That said, a lot of Lions fans are glad they didn’t make a move. Personally I think the management of the Lions didn’t see enough upside in a deal to land Cutler. I hope they’re right.
