Peter King: Bears Are #4 In NFL
I was surprised to see that in Peter King’s latest NFL rankings he has New England at #1 and my beloved Bears at #4 behind Pittsburgh and the Giants.
I love the Bears as much as anyone, but I’m not sure they should be ranked that high. Teams 5-1o are Indy, Philly, San Diego, Baltimore, Dallas and Tennessee.
While he is high on the Bears, King is not a fan of how new QB Jay Cutler orchestrated his trade:
I may not like how Jay Cutler babied his way out of Denver, but by Labor Day, the football world will have forgotten, and by Thanksgiving, the most popular baby name in Chicagoland will be Jay.
I still don’t see how Cutler is a baby. He got a new boss. The new boss was interested in other players for his job, after he was one of the top performers in the league last year. He decides it’s time to move on. How is that being a baby? Most people would react the same way. He’s trying to build his career. If the new man in charge isn’t fully sold on him, why would he want to stay?
Let’s say that the brass at SI made waves at another writer to take King’s place. For giggles we’ll say Jay Mariotti. If King found out about that and he knew there were other opportunities of commensurate value and stature, would he not look into them?

As I’ve said a few times already this offseason. This Bears team will end up being the most overrated one in Bears history. And that’s saying something.
And Cutler was a baby. Trades are a part of sports. Every player knows that going in. Man up and play better if you think your team is trying to trade you away.

And like you said, trades are a part of sports. So why is he a baby for wanting to be traded?
Let’s just say Cutler doesn’t do so well in Chicago this coming season and the team starts thinking about trading him next year. Is Cutler going to DEMAND to be traded by the Bears then because he doesn’t want to play for a team not COMPLETELY committed to him?
I just think he’s a high maintenance athlete and a lot of times in sports, that’s not a good thing.

Why do you think my scenario is different?
“Let’s just say Cutler doesn’t do so well”. That is one difference, because he was one of the top QBs in the league. Also there was a coaching change.
What do you consider to be a “top QB”? Cutler had a QB rating of 86.1 last year. That ranks 17th in the NFL.
And do you honestly believe there isn’t a decent chance there will be a coaching change with the Bears after next season?
