Is the Pressure Getting To LaRussa?
Tony LaRussa (aka The Delicate Genius) recently said that the Cardinal fans’ treatment of Chris Duncan “makes me want to vomit. And you can quote me on that.”
LaRussa ripping the creepy Cardinal fandom? I love it!
Then he had a little spat with Al Hrabosky, Cards color man and former reliever.
All this led Aaron Hooks from Cardinals Diaspora and Inside STL to ask “What’s Up with Tony?”
“But in the span of two weeks, LaRussa, already a polarizing figure in St. Louis, has seemingly gone out of his way to piss off just about everyone that cares about this team. Why?”
Read the story for the 3 reasons Hooks thinks LaRussa might be losing it a bit. It might not mean anything, but it sure is fun to read. And it put a smile on my face.
Maybe TLR is feeling the pressure to win. He has the best starter and best hitter going for him. They lead the central. People are starting to expect that the Cardinals will win the division, whether it is fair or not. I’m sure the fans think they should.

Seriously, when you write anything about the Cardinals, you become a blithering idiot. And did you honestly just call their fans “creepy”??
Tony’s wearing on me. Not only did he go way too far in defending Duncan, he tossed Brendan Ryan under the bus to do it.
LaRussa doesn’t get mad or rattled. He is motivating his guys and the fans will love him for winning not for pissing off Al Hrabosky. He is too seasoned and smart to distract his own team’s progress.
The Cardinals do have a creepy fandom, yes, generally speaking. Just like how people rip on the Cubs fans. Not all, but most. It’s all in fun, Dave. Take a deep breath.
Tim I read about the Ryan thing too– pretty lame. And judging from the comments I’ve read on some Cards blogs it’s looking like a lot of them are getting tired of him.
You call me a creepy fan and then you tell me it’s all in fun and to take a deep breath? You’re the one who needs to get a grip, dude. You have a bizarre and unnatural hatred of the Cardinals. And it’s all based on your own pathetic baseball team not winning anything for over a century. You’re a bitter fan who has no perspective.
And as usual, you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about here. There’s been a faction of Cardinals fans that have NEVER liked Tony La Russa. This kind of talk about him has been going on since day one.
Just stick to writing about your lovable losers.
