A NEW CHANDLER IN CHICAGO
Tyson Chandler was traded to the Hornets and as it turns out, he wasn’t even the best Chandler in Chicago. DePaul’s Sophomore forward Wilson Chandler owns that title–even if Tyson was still on the Bulls (and dropping passes in the post leading to fast break buckets for the opponent).
Wilson Chandler said hello to the world last night as DePaul upset #21 Notre Dame on a nationally televised ESPN game. I had the honor of being at the Allstate Arena for the coming out party. He had the game-winning dunk with 16 seconds left and then blocked a layup attempt near the buzzer to seal it. In all, Chandler totaled 25 points on 10-19 shooting, made all 3 of his free throw attempts, blocked 3 shots and pulled down 14 boards.
There is nothing he can’t do and he does everything well. In what was a must-win game for the Blue Demons, Chandler simply took over and won the game for DePaul. He’s likely the best player in college basketball that you’ve yet to hear about, unless you were watching last night. Chandler is 6’8″ 230 and on his way to the NBA at some point. As a lifelong DePaul fan, hopefully he stays for all 4 years.
How Notre dame is ranked #21 is anyone’s guess. Be that as it may, it’s a huge win against a ranked team for DePaul, now 14-11 with 5 to go. They play Notre dame in Indiana on February 20th. The game is on ESPN2. You should watch.
