ANGELO DEFENDS DRAFT RECORD
Jerry Angelo is taking umbrage. Umbrage, I tell you! In an article in today’s Tribune, Angelo defends his record on drafting offensive players.
“Colombo had a pretty horrific injury when he was with us,” Angelo said Wednesday. “Rex, I think Rex is a good football player. And the verdict is still out on Cedric.
“I look at an Adrian Peterson and he’s a pretty good football player. Bernard Berrian’s a good football player. We like what we see in [receiver] Mark Bradley. [Tight end] Greg Olsen, so far, has turned out to be a pretty good player. So as many question marks as you can come up with, I could come up with exclamation points.”
Olsen may turn out to be an exclamation point. You could make the case that Hester is an offensive weapon. But to me, and most observers and Bears fans, those guys are periods. Not exclamation points. Every game the Bears take the field the other team almost always has the best player on offense.
There will be no surprise here when the Bears trade down in round one of this year’s draft. My guess is they do that and pick a lineman while accumulating more picks. Let’s just hope some of those picks are spent on skill players.
