ARTEST ON MOVE IN WEST

0

SI’s Ian Thomsen has a good look at the Ron Artest situation. If you’re a Nuggets fan, this particular blurb has to make your mouth water:

“Imagine Artest guarding Manu Ginobili with Marcus Camby protecting the rim behind him. The Nuggets’ defense — already fifth in the league in points per possession — would improve tremendously. As a point forward capable of initiating the Nuggets’ offense, he would ease some of their ball-handling issues.”

I don’t know that Artest eases any ball-handling issues, but assuming he doesn’t need time off to cut a rap record, the first part of the thought is right on. Artest not only plays great defense, he’s physical and often frustrates his opponents, taking them out of their usual game. He’s a brick you-know-what house and a pain in the you-know-what to go up against.

Carmelo, Ron-Ron, A.I., K-Mart and Camby? Sounds pretty impressive. Add in Najera and J.R. Smith off the bench and that’s a very nice top 7. Of course, I’m one of the few guys that thinks it’s still the Spurs conference to lose. And should Denver meet San Antonio in the playoffs I think it would be uh-oh time for the Nugs. But Artest changes all that. Maybe.
