BENGALS DIG THE EX-BEARS

3

Go Bengals! They have re-signed Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman will be visiting on Thursday. “Cedric was a great addition for us last year,” Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. “We’re looking to see him pick up right where he left off.” Best of luck with that. Benson gets $7 million over 2 years.

Most surprising was this from Lewis:

“His years in Chicago weren’t what he hoped for, but he was able to give us a lift on the field and be a great presence in the locker room. He earned everyone’s respect, and we’re excited to let him continue to grow in our system.”

That’s a far cry from the guy that was here in Chicago, where he wasn’t well-liked. And as I wrote earlier, I wouldn’t get too excited just yet if I was a Bengals fan.

Zoner, you seem to have a tough time separating yourself as a fan from players who used to play for your teams.

Sometimes certain players need a change of scenery to perform better for whatever reason. It happens. Just sayin’. :)

I don’t disagree with that at all. I probably do.

But his overall numbers are pretty much what they were like with the Bears, and his big games came in the last 2 games of the year against terrible teams.

I don’t think Benson is suddenly a better player. But it seems like sometimes these pampered athletes need to be knocked down a few pegs before they realize they have to work hard to compete against the best.
