David Ortiz thinks everyone should give Barry Bonds props because he’s not sure steroids even help Bonds.

“I look at it hitting-wise, because I don’t know what steroids can do to you as a baseball player. You’ve still got to swing the bat, man,” Ortiz said. “If I ever use steroids, and then I know what the difference can be and I’m using them, I’ll tell you, ‘Yeah, whatever,’ but I don’t know what the feelings are when you use the steroids. But I can tell you how it feels to pull yourself together to swing the bat.”

He can’t possibly be this naive. He continues:

“I tell you, I don’t know too much about steroids, but I started listening about steroids when they started to bring that [stuff] up, and I started realizing and getting to know a little bit about it,” Ortiz told the Herald.

Maybe Big Papi better read up some more. No one disputes Bonds has a great swing. Bonds won 3 MVPs before he ever even started taking “supplements”. If he had retired before his 4 consecutive MVP award seasons I still maintain he would have been a Hall of Famer. But to think that roids wouldn’t help any player is ridiculous.

Roids don’t help a player hit a baseball. I think that was Big Papi’s point, if I may be so bold as to interpret the man’s words. I agree that roids can help guys recover faster and therefore work out more frequently. Ultimately this leads to the player becoming bigger and stronger, so the only thing I think roids does is improve strength, stamina and help players stay healthier.

sure it can help a player. because of all the things you mentioned.
