BLOGGER MOCK DRAFT

1

Erik from Future Redbirds was kind enough to allow me to participate in an MLB mock draft, with bloggers and other luminaries acting as GMs. I was asked to “channel my inner Kenny Williams” and represent the White Sox. So once the draft was underway, I basically sat around with a scowl on my face and waited for my turn.

When the White Sox got on the clock, I was faced with a tough decision. I already knew I was going to select a position player, as the Sox have traded away most of their prospects. I was looking at 2 potential picks. Eric Hosmer and Brett Wallace. I chose Wallace. He has absolutely dominated at ASU and was the 2007 PAC-10 Player of the Year. His numbers are staggering. Hosmer is represented by none other than Scott Boras and he is right out of high school. Here is the 1st round…

My Cards had a very interesting draft, IMO. We nabbed Wallace pretty late (for him) and then got a nice mix of HS and college talent. I’m most intrigued by Vasquez (18 year old SS) and Gorgen (shorter P with very good mound presence). I’ll say this about the Cards. They’ve definitely turned their organization around pretty quickly these past few years and put much more emphasis on developing and keeping young talent.
