I just don’t see how any of this is helping [tag]Lance Briggs[/tag], short or long run.

“I am now prepared to sit out the year if the Bears don’t trade me or release me,” Briggs told FoxSports.com’s Jay Glazer. “I’ve played my last snap for them. I’ll never play another down for Chicago again.”

This continues to get more lame by the day. We now have Briggs telling us he was tricked into doing an interview on a local sports talker. Um, yeah. Every negative utterance decreases his trade value and the [tag]Bears[/tag] won’t deal him unless the price is right. If he really wants to sit out a whole season, I would suggest new representation. If the name of the game is money and a long-term deal, sitting out does nothing to help that cause.

And I know the NFLPA approved the Franchise Tag clause, but I think it should be allowed a one-time use per player. That makes a lot more sense to me.

David Haugh of the Trib breaks it down here.

A huge hit for the Bears if he really will sit out. They will have to trade him…they can get a second round pick for him I am sure of that.

I don’t think they have to trade him. He has no power. They can franchise him again next year. They have the 31st and 37th picks and they can find an LB there or move up to get one. Not as good as Briggs but they won;t let him hold them hostage.

He’s trying everything he can to get his big contract now and for that I can’t blame him. But when push comes to shove and there is 7+ million right there for him, he’ll play.
