BULLS DRAFT PROSPECTS

When you win only 30-some games, I suppose you have room for improvement pretty much everywhere. So with folly in mind I went over to the NBA Mock Draft Lottery machine over at ESPN. There you can “play the lottery” and it spits out a random draft order. Then the picks are based on Chad Ford’s different scenarios.

I did it 10 times and 9 times the Bulls received the #9 pick overall. Ford has them selecting Kevin Love there. That gave me quite a bit of pause. The 1 different lottery had the Bulls miraculously receiving the #1 overall pick. They selected Michael Beasley.

If it came to #9, I think I’d rather see the Bulls draft a quick point guard like D.J. Augustin or Russell Westbrook. If they had number one do they take Beasley or Rose? Maybe you try and run people off the floor with Thomas, Noah, Hughes and Deng and Rose. At least it would be fun to watch.

    Yeah, doesn’t look like the Bulls will be getting a great point guard in this draft either.

    Lots depends on what they’re going to keep around. Yes, great point is a need, but that roster is STACKED with guards. Will Gordon and Deng be back? Will they try to deal Hinrich? Will Gooden and Hughes still be here (Bulls have a tendency to deal just-aquired guys pretty quickly). Will be very interesting at draft time…I have a feeling the Bulls will be doing some dealing on draft day.

    Well Gordon and Duhon will be gone, which leaves you with Hinrich, Thabo and Hughes, cuz I don’t think Hughes is going anywhere. Deng may also be gone, or sign and trade.

    With lack of a true low-post scorer, I think what the Bulls need most is a guard that can penetrate and get to the basket and finish. Hinrich rarely goes to the basket–even on breaks he will pull up and I want to scream.

    I like Augustine based on the fact that he is quick, a floor leader, and has a +2/1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Lots of people want Hinrich gone, but I think he could fit nicely as a 2 guard and back up point. He is not a penetrator, so that kind of kills our half court offense. A pg who can take his man off the dribble into the lane will definitely get easier looks for the rest of the offense. We need a post-up player, too, but I think a true point guard gets us just as many easy buckets as a post-up guy. I think Westbrook could wind up being a steal, but he probably won’t be as ready as Augustine. Kevin Love seems like he would not give much more than what Drew Gooden already gives us. I love the center from Florida. Haven’t seen him play much but from what people are saying he seems to be flying under the radar. I know we have a surplus of guards, but both CDR and Rush should be good pro’s and available when we pick. Randolph might pose major matchup problems on both ends of the court for opposing teams, and that could be very valuable.

    Dang. I could have wrote that–I’m totally in agreement with you. I really like Augustin and I believe Hinrich could still be a valuable contributor at the 1 and the 2. I also think we have seen his ceiling. But he should be better next year.

    One thing about Westbrook–he has some serious length for a PG. He’s 6’3″ or 6’4″ and has a long wingspan.

    Either way the team needs a leader on the floor. Hopefully they will get one.
