Some notes of interest from the great Draft Sharks:

There is one interesting trade rumor we heard last week: Detroit trades the #2 pick (Brady Quinn) to Philadelphia for McNabb and the 26th overall pick.

Detroit’s #2 pick is not an enviable spot, at least for them. They will probably be staring WR Calvin Johnson in the face, but after taking three 1st-round receivers since 2003 – Charles Rogers (miss), Roy Williams (hit), Mike Williams (miss) – they simply can’t go that route again. So the country’s best player is almost prohibited from being a Lion. QB is always an issue in the Motor City. Do they take Brady Quinn or JaMarcus Russell if available? Jon Kitna played well but got sloppy down the stretch, finishing with a league-leading 31 turnovers (22 INTs, 9 fumbles lost). He’ll be 35 this season too. Plus, RBs Kevin Jones (foot) and Brian Calhoun (knee) are facing major rehabs and there’s a chance neither will be ready for training camp. Draft Adrian Peterson? Trade the #2 pick for Clinton Portis? And here’s the worst part… The decisions will ultimately be made by the worst sports executive in America: Matt Millen.

Detroit is so bad they should really entertain trading that pick for several picks. They could move down in the draft and still get a big playmaker (if they are looking for that) and more. Only the Titans gave up more points than the Kitties in 2006.

But here’s guessing that Millen takes Quinn with the 2nd pick. And won’t that work out great.

You would think being in the #2 spot would be exciting and promising..I wonder who Millen will listen to in order to make that pick…He’ll get more phone calls in 15 minutes than he’s gotten in his life…

Detroit beating Dallas on the final week sure messed things up. Now they’re “stuck” with the second pick. Here’s what I would do:

    Fire Millen
    Fire Millen
    and finally:

Draft OT Joe Thomas out of Wisconsin. The Kittykat O-line is HORRIBLE. If Kitna has any protection whatsoever, those INT’s and sacks go down big time. You only need an average QB to win the NFL (okay, so a good QB helps, too). Do NOT draft a QB, either Quinn or Russell. I don’t care if they are the “next” StaubachBradshawMontanaYoungAikmanElway. Don’t do it. If they trade down for McNabb it would be a mistake of epic proportions. Don’t trade your draft pick for damaged goods. If the good lord smiles on Motown draft day, the Ray-da’s will take Russell, the LieDowns will take Thomas, and Quinn can go back to the dump known as Ohio and play for the Brownies. If Quinn winds up in Detroit, my shoe will wind up in my TV.
