Cricket Semi Final 1: Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Odds and Predictions
Semi Final 1: Sri Lanka vs. New Zealand
Sri Lanka had a comprehensive victory over England and are favourites to win this match. However, New Zealand showed that they are a side that must never be underestimated and have the ability to knock Sri Lanka out of the world cup.
Date: 29th March
London Start Time: 09:00
Venue and Pitch
The match will take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The stadium will be packed to capacity and New Zealand will find little support as the Sri Lankan crowd will be vociferous in their support for the home side. The pitch at the RPS stadium will be difficult to bat on as soon as the ball loses its shine. The side that wins the toss will look to bat first and a score of 250 plus should be a match winning score.
New Zealand will be brimming with confidence after pulling of a spectacular victory against South Africa. Ross Taylor has told reporters that the black caps believe they have it in them to secure a place in the final. The biggest concern for captain Daniel Vettori will be the form of Brendon McCullum and Scott Styris who have not made any contributions with the bat.
Captain K Sangakkara will be very happy with his top order who have played magnificently well. However, it is the bowling department which will trouble him as his strike bowler L Malinga has looked completely out of form and star spinner M Muralitharan hobbled off the ground in the game against England and is doubtful of playing against New Zealand.
Sri Lanka 4/11 are playing great cricket and have the advantage of playing at home. However, their middle order has not been tested and if New Zealand 12/5 manage to take a few quick wickets, they will be in with a definite chance.
The Sri Lankan openers T Dilshan 7/2 and U Tharanga 7/2 are having a fabulous tournament. K Sangakkara 10/3 will look to anchor the innings and be the mainstay in the middle-order. If M Muralitharan does not play, L Malinga will have the added pressure thrust on him of leading the attack and picking up quick wickets.
Unlike the Sri Lankan openers, the New Zealand openers have had a poor tournament. Brendon McCullum 9/2 and Martin Guptill 7/2 know it is vital for them to get their team of to a good start. Ross Taylor 7/2 will be a key player in the middle of the innings and captain Daniel Vettori will look to contribute with both ball and bat.
Expect fireworks from Brendon McCullum and T Dilshan as they look to take advantage of the new ball and get their team off to a good start. Bet now!
Match Predictions of Sri Lanka vs New Zealand
The last time Sri Lanka played New Zealand in this tournament they beat them by 112 runs. Things will not be that easy this time around as the pressure of a semi-final will get to both teams. On form, Sri Lanka should progress to the finals but New Zealand have a habit of pulling of unexpected victories in world cup matches.
Best Bet: Brendon McCullum 9/2
