Friday: Add another one to the “That’s So Cubs” category. A category that is growing a bit too much for Cubs fans. Ronny Cedeno doesn’t bother to look back while running on a full count. The call is ball 4. Cedeno overslides the bag and is called out. On a walk. Game over. Cedeno has some raw talent but he’s not the smartest player. Piniella has been giving him some playing time but now is calling for a 12th pitcher. Cedeno is the most likely candidate to go down. I hope.
Saturday: Jason Marquis pitches an incredible game. He goes 7 IP allows 7 hits and no walks, striking out 5. In the process we get another childish quote from Albert Pujols.
“He got in trouble like normally, you know, he always gets in trouble, and finds a lucky pitch to make to get out of trouble, you know,” Baby Pujols said.
Marquis still hasn’t allowed a homer and despite walking too many has a WHIP of 1.17 and a 1.88 ERA. Cards fans tell us to enjoy it now. We are.
Sunday: Old School Cardinals. Pujols, Rolen and Edmonds go off on Cubs pitching to compensate for the poor performance by Wainwright. They combine to go 10-17 with 3 HRs and 8 RBI.
The Cubs comeback to tie it in the 9th and Dempster quickly blows it in the 9th. Cotts walks three and Howry has another poor outing. Somebody call Carlos Marmol.
The Cubs are 7-11 and in last place. In come the 1st place Brewers. Zambrano pitches tonight and he needs a good outing badly. The Cubs are only 3-7 at home.
