CUBS START IT OFF WITH A WIN

The Cubs started off with a bang — literally — as Alfonso Soriano hit the 2nd Roy Oswalt pitch over the fence for a leadoff homer. Also of note in this game:

The Good:

  • Beat Roy Oswalt in his own park
  • Zambrano looked excellent
  • Lou came out to get him exactly when he needed to
  • Heilman coming in with men on base and getting a huge double play on his first pitch
  • Marmol looking great, including making Carlos Lee buckle hard on a slider
  • Soto gunning down Tejada trying to steal

The Bad:

  • Fukudome looked horrible and without a plan at the plate
  • Kevin Gregg looks rather underwhelming
  • Milton Bradley already twisted his ankle running to first and he had an error on a fly in the 9th. It was ruled a hit but it was definitely an error.

One question: How long will Fukudome and Lee be the 2 and 3 in the lineup? I can see them both being moved in the near future. although Lou loves the left/right action in the lineup.

I couldn’t catch the game tonight, but neither the good nor bad surprise me. Really, where did Kevin Gregg come from? And my love affair with KoFu ended last August.
