CUBS & TIGERS TALKING TRADE?
Hat tip to PB, from the Freep:
The Cubs have considered adding another right-handed hitter, and they are believed to have some interest in Brandon Inge and Marcus Thames. The San Francisco Giants have also asked about Inge.
Detroit manager Jim Leyland, though, isn’t counting on acquiring a reliever.
“Nobody’s going to parachute in here that’s going to be our savior,” Leyland said. “We can’t make our bullpen, in the next 10 days, as good as if we had Zumaya and Rodney. We can’t do it. So, forget about it.”
I would like to see Inge here. He could take the roster spot of Cedeno and certainly would be a huge upgrade to the bench. The Cubs could then possibly add another lefty to the pen. I’ve never been a huge Wuertz fan, but I do acknowledge he is underrated and probably underappreciated. And with the Cubs counting on Kerry Wood, maybe it isn’t the best idea to trade a proven relief pitcher. Inge makes your bench better, but he certainly isn’t a need.
