With the break in March Madness, a quick look at the NBA playoffs with the ‘ol “If the season ended today” scenario.

In my opinion the best series in the East would be #3 Washington vs. #6 Miami. In the West it would be #4 Utah vs. #5 Houston.

Houston has pounded on the East to attain their 42-25 record. They are only 21-19 in conference. Utah is 43-23 and they are 25-12 in conference and they would be hosting the series. Still, I would enjoy the Sloan vs. Van Gundy coaching matchup as well as watching Yao, McGrady, AK-47 and Deron Williams. It would be some solid basketball.

I begged for the Bulls to draft Gilbert Arenas with their 2nd round pick in the 2001 draft. It seemed like a lock as he was still on the board after the end of the first round. But not for Jerry Krause. He instead chose Trenton Hassell. Hassell was selected after Tony Parker and right before Gilbert Arenas. Oh what could have been.

Arenas has turned into one of the most entertaining players in the game. Oh, and he can ball too. He gets to the line 10 times a game, so as usual it will be interesting to watch the officiating in that series, mostly due to the Heat. This series could get really nasty.

The Bulls would play Toronto. I don’t know how many games it would take but I’m almost certain the Bulls would win the series. So if Washington beats Miami, the Bulls would then get the Pistons in round 2. How fun would that be? If Miami wins, the Bulls would face the Cavs.

The final four in the West will likely be Utah, San Antonio, Phoenix and Dallas. March Madness is fun. But the NBA is fantastic! Don’t forget it. The playoffs will be insane this year and I’m really looking forward to it.

The Bull seemed pretty locked into the 5th spot – it’s hard to picture making up 4 in the loss column on the Cavs with 14 to go. There’s a better chance they’d slip to 6th, but their schedule is favorable so I doubt it – not that it wouldn’t be in their interest. As it looks right now, they look fated to lose to Detroit in the 2nd round.

Even though they’re seeded below Tor, if they maintain a better record they’ll have home court, which should be enough against a kinda dangerous Raptor team. But I can’t see them beating Detroit, as much as I want to be optimistic. They’re just not ready for that step yet. If they drop to 6th, they’d have a better chance against Clev in the 2nd – but the flipside is Wash in the 1st round, which would be much tougher than Tor. So – rock, meet hard place.

But if Bulls beat Toronto and Washington Miami beats Washington, then wouldn’t Miami play Detroit and the Bulls gert the Cavs?

Oh – you mean they re-seed again after the first round? So best plays worst? If that’s how it works, you’re right. Which is good. If Miami beats Washington.

Sorry to reveal my ignorance – first year with the new setup.

    well now I’m not sure.

The Bulls are a whopping 14-21 on the road; which is where they will spend a good chunk of the playoffs. If you can’t go at least .500 away from the UC, you won’t win in the playoffs. Bulls done in the first round mang!

Bulls have very little chance of going past the 2nd round in the playoffs this year. An offense with virtually no slashers or post up offensive players just doesn’t cut it in the NBA playoffs.
