DON’T LET THE DOOR…
According to Paul Sullivan in today’s Tribune:
Several teams have courted Wood, including Boston, which wants him to be the primary right-handed setup man for closer Jonathan Papelbon.
The Cubs convinced Wood to take an incentive-laden one-year deal last November. But with so much interest on the market, they now will have to decide whether he’s worth the risk of a multiyear deal at around $5 million per year.
Um, no. He’s not. I’d rather have David Riske for that price, and he’d probably come cheaper anyway. Or I’d rather spend a few more bucks (OK a lot of bucks) and get Francisco Cordero. Could you imagine a bullpen with a back end of Marmol and Cordero? Wow!
Sullivan also writes that:
Hendry also is looking to sign Colorado infielder Kazuo Matsui to a three-year deal. He could use the left-handed hitter at both second base and shortstop.
Perhaps the Cubs brass doesn’t like Ryan Theriot as much as the fans do.
