From the Trib:

“Six weeks ago Thursday, shortly after firing interim coach Jim Boylan, general manager John Paxson talked about hiring someone who passionately resonated with players and fans.

How about Doug Collins?

Sources confirmed the former Bulls coach could be poised to become the new Bulls coach. Collins coached the Bulls from 1986-89 and, as recently as two weeks ago, talked about not wanting to leave his TNT broadcasting job and the family life it afforded him.”

Thoughts? One last run for Douggie C?

And so the recycling of NBA coaches continues. Pax missed the boat with so many other candidates. I’ll bet they’re getting DC really CHEAP! I don’t know if he’s the man that can galvanize that team, but it’s worth a shot I guess. FIRE MILLEN MANG!

It wouldn’t be the worst move. Collins might not get enough credit for laying the ground work for MJ and the Bulls prior to their championships. Lots more experience. Staying current by seeing/scouting other teams from the broadcast booth. I don’t see a down side. There could be better options but there’s a lot worst also.

Oh, I think there are definitely down sides to this move.

John Hollinger of ESPN.com doesn’t like Chicago sports teams either. :)

He does make some valid points. I just don’t see it with Collins. Seems like Paxson just wants a carbon copy of himself coaching his team. That probably won’t win a championship in the NBA, though. I think players need to be stroked these days much more than in the past.
