DRAFT THOUGHTS

4

Obviously thrilled with the pick of Derrick Rose. I assume the trade of Sonny Weems is a salary-related move, and the Bulls have their new Dragan Tarlac/Roberto Duenas/Dalibor Bagaric in Turkish player Omer Asik.

But I agree with Brian Hamilton of the Tribune on the wackiest moves of the night belonging to none other than Michael Jordan. The Bobcats pass on Brook Lopez and take a point guard? When they already have Ray Felton? I am a huge fan of D.J. Augustin, but I have no idea what they were doing there. Then they get a project center at 20. I would think a 2 or 3 would have been the choice there if not Lopez.

There were a few grumps during the telecast. Most notably was the commish. Seemed like every time he announced a pick he added a terse, “He is not here.” I guess commish wanted to shake more hands and take more pics.

Another grump was Larry Bird. He was just rude when being interviewed. Why go on if you really don’t want to?

Stephen A. Smith was terrible in his new role. Stuart Scott toned it down a bit which was nice. Very impressed with Mark Jackson and Van Gundy. Jay Bilas, not so much.

Book it: the steal of the draft is Marreese Speights of Florida. The Sixers will be more exciting next year.

This draft was the worst draft class ever.. I don’t now whats going on with the NBA. If you wanna win games, you get players that can play, you don’t go out and get maybes, possibles, players that need development. That’s the reason you can play 4 years in college. You have seniors who have developed there games to a professional level and they are not even being selected in the draft. May not even make a NBA team leaving them to play overseas whereas the NBA teams are selecting players from over seas. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all. So many freshmen taken and for what? I can see the reason behind a couple of them.. but not to the point where a new record of freshman taken this year.. Politics.. Dick Vitale needs to be smacked in his face for promoting this non-sense about high school players should be allowed to come straight out of high school.. These guys are kids not professionals. Look how long it took Kobe to get where he is today. Micheal Jordan for example this sport shit is no gift. It comes from hard work and practice. The NBA is turning into a circus show because they are failing the people who worked so hard to become better players.. Congrats to all the Seniors who made it in the 2008 Draft and Good luck to the Senors to come..

The worst draft class ever? Uh, you’re dumb. Two super-studs at the top, and solid players littered throughout. The class with Fizer was awful (Jamal Crawford was the best player taken in the first round that year) and so was two years ago with Tyrus.

BTW, I heard Ray Felton may be on his way to NY for David Lee, so maybe that is why they took DJ.

I would be shocked if that deal happened. Oh, wait–it’s the Knicks.

Luckily Vinny Del Negro doesn’t have any predeceived notions about Omer Asik.

“Meet Omer, 21, Turkish basketball player, credit score 650…”
