Your 1st assignment: bat leadoff against Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Wow.

Pie has dominated thus far down at AAA. He’s 16-36 including 9 BBs. His OPS is 1.127. Any player can go on a hot streak for 11 games. But it’s the 9 walks that indicate he may be getting it. We’ll see. If does well up here then what? I don’t like Soriano in CF anyway so I hope Pie sticks. Soriano will be out approximately a week.

If Pie doesn’t work out, maybe Theriot could spell Soriano.

Great debut last night. Helped big time in bringing the Cubs back in the game, and saving the game in the tenth.
If only he could pitch in Ohman’s spot.
I was surprised to see Eyre get out of the ninth with the way he’s been giving up games lately.

It would be great to see Pie become the starter. I like Jones, more than most, but we would be much better with Pie at potential, and the Fonz in right.

When is D-Lee going to go yard?

I don’t think the Fonz will ever play right, even though he has a RF arm. At least that’s what I’m hearing/reading.

DLee is smoking right now and the bombs will come.

I think Pie’s promotion finally gets this roster to where I always felt it needed to be – with at least one true CFer and 11 pitchers instead of 12. Both were accomplished, now they just need to figure out who the 10th and 11th pitchers should be. Assuming he doesn’t fall on his face or start swinging at everything – which he did a little of yesterday, despite the otherwise impressive debut – he should be in CF, Soriano in LF, and use RF for whomever is hot or hits that day’s pitcher etc. Jones does not automatically get in there everyday, nor does Floyd. And yes, the more Riot, the better.

Now if we can just convince Soriano to bat 5th or 6th…

Personally, I think the Cubs are once again rushing yet another promising young, everyday player. Hopefully for Cubs fans this doesn’t deter his development. I have my doubts…

The Cubs signed Pie when he was 16 and he has almost 2000 minor league ABs. He has never had a true ‘breakout’ season in the minors despite so many ABs. He was off to a rip-roaring start in AAA this year.

If he did tank it would be so Cubs, wouldn’t it?
