I absolutely loved Frank Caliendo. Loved him on Mad TV. Loved him doing Madden on local radio here in Chicago. Loved his standup. But then, I started getting waaaaay too much Frank. Way too much Bush. I was still pumped for “Frank TV” when I heard about it. But I was slightly disappointed in it once it hit the air. He kept harping on the Bush impression, which had already been old for a long time. And there were more misses than hits. Perhaps I was just too stoked for it? And now, Frank TV is dead.

It is good news and bad news for comedian Frank Caliendo. TBS will not be bringing back his sketch comedy series Frank TV for another season, but he has a signed a new deal to continue his role with Fox NFL Sunday for another two years.

The TBS comedy series, which debuted in November 2007, gained notoriety early on mostly because it was heavily promoted by the network during its baseball playoff broadcasts that year, enough so that even Caliendo would joke about it in subsequent interviews.

So maybe this is a good thing. We’ll still get the hilarity of Frank, just in smaller doses. And hopefully the Bush impression is dead too. I love ya Frank. But time to reload with some new material! Here is one of my favorite skits from “Frank TV”:

  • shocker.

Wow, that clip is the perfect example of why the show was cancelled. It’s funny for about 2 minutes, but 5 whole minutes of that? The material doesn’t hold up.
