UPDATE: Golfweek apologized Friday for putting a noose on the cover of its magazine and the editor responsible for the cover was ousted.

Golfweek’s current issue features a picture of a noose, a thinly veiled publicity stunt to capture some eyeballs on their magazine.

“Was it an arresting image? “Yes, it was,” Golfweek editor Dave Seanor told USA Today. “We chose it because it was an image we thought would draw attention to an issue we thought deserved some intelligent dialogue.”

“There was a great deal of debate over it,” Seanor said of the magazine’s in-house deliberations, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “But it was the news of the week, no question about it. That’s what everybody in the game is talking about.”

You got your attention. About 2 weeks too late though. Now it’s just looks like trying to capitalize on sensationalism.

I don’t know what’s more preposterous. Kelly Tilghman getting suspended for using the word “lynched” or you pointing out how Golf Week shouldn’t have printed a picture of a noose on their cover. Move along, nothing to see here…

In this country Dave that word can only mean one thing. Like Golfweek, the Golf Channel was a little late to issue the suspension. But to say it’s preposterous shows either a lack of understanding or callousness on your part.

  • dhaab

Lack of understanding? Get a hold of yourself, Matty. I know all about the origin of the word.

Maybe I’m just sick of living in an ever growing PC world that’s getting WAY out of control.

  • http://zonersports.com The Zoner

That’s not what understanding is. Obviously you know its origin. I’m talking about understanding it from the other perspective. But as for the PC getting out of control–no doubt.

  • dhaab

How can any white person understand it from the other perspective?

  • dhaab

To quote from Ben Folds…”Ya all don’t know what it’s like being male, middle class and white”. :)

Kelly Tilghman had a poor choice of words; and on live TV, said something she shouldn’t.

Thus setting the stage for the nation and the world to be more sensitive. Golf magazine (or whichever publication it is, Golfer weekly?) knowing people would be on edge, should of thought to look at its publications, thinking “Is there anything in our work here that would seem out of sorts or in-sensitive?”

THE FLAMING COVER HAD A NOOSE ON IT!!!!!! Think someone would of gone, “uhhh, boss? I don’t think that cover is appropriate; don’t you agree?”

The EIC should be sacked for sheer stupidity. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice?

    The person is a moron.

Here is my final thought on this subject:
Grow up, America. Quit crying about something somebody said that offended you. We have bigger fish to fry than a Golf Channel reporter who obviously didn’t think about how some people might get their feelings hurt and take offense to a comment she made. Her comment was an innocent mistake. The outcry, NOT the comment, perpetuates racism.

  • Joe LoCascio

I don’t think she meant it in a racial way, but as everyone has noted it was a poor choice of words. She should have gone “Caddyshack” and said they should get together and cut the bottom of his hamstring. Funny AND golf related. Putting a noose on the cover of a golf mag? Talk about idiot of the week. PC world or not that is just plain stupid. She said what she said, got suspended and it was over. Then these morons have to start some crap with their cover. I hope the opposite happens and no one buys their mag anymore because they are jack asses.
