GOOD LUCK IN 2009, WHITE SOX

Now this is a blockbuster. The Tigers get Miggy Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis for 6 players. Hey good luck in 2009, White Sox.

I’m not even sure the Tigers gave up bonafide stars. Rabelo is a 27-year old catcher. Miller is only 22 and was rushed to the bigs after just 28 minor league starts. Maybin is certainly a top-prospect–but is he a can’t miss?

The Tigers lineup will look something like this:

  1. CF Granderson
  2. 2B Polanco
  3. RF Ordonez
  4. 3B Cabrera
  5. DH Sheffield
  6. 1B Guillen
  7. SS Renteria
  8. C Rodriguez
  9. LF J. Jones/Thames

That’s pretty amazing. Dave Dombrowski is already Executive of the Year. He got Renteria and Jacque Jones, re-signed Todd Jones and Kenny Rogers and now nabs Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. It’s December 4th. Happy. Holidays. And how about that rotation:

  1. Bonderman
  2. Verlander
  3. Rogers
  4. Willis
  5. Robertson

And while the bullpen is not dominant, Rodney and Seay are good relievers and Jones is decent enough while they wait for Zumaya to return from his shoulder injury. Of course, Dombrowski is probably going to sign Gagne or Octavio Dotel or make another deal to solidify the pen.

If you are a White Sox fan and know that Ozzie Guillen has some history with Cabrera, you’re wondering why Willis and Cabrera are Tigers and not White Sox. It’s a good question. So far Kenny Williams has broken out his “Schueler Move” in acquiring Carlos Quentin–buy low and hope for the best from a player who has underachieved and been injured.

There is still time for Williams to swing some deals, but so far he has got rid of 200+ innings that he thinks will be replaced by career bust Gavin Floyd and has too many shortstops on his roster.

Let’s go Chicago teams. I’m getting antsy over here.

    You’re right, the Tigers everyday lineup is sick. The ChiSox have their work cut out for them if they want to make a run in the Central. I’ve heard from Tribe fans who are not happy, to put it mildly. It’s as if over the past 3 seasons, the Tigers have finally woken from their long slumber, realized they are big market team, and started acting like one!

    Can there be 2 more contrasting GM’s in the same city, than the gutsy and smart Dave Dombrowski, and the moronic and functionally retarded Matt Millen?

    YEAH MANG! The Tiggies making some big time moves. That lineup looks like an all-star starting lineup mang! I for one am glad they took this shot. Dombrowski is a smart cookie, and is compensated handsomely for doing what he does well. It would appear that the Sox will now have to climb an ever bigger mountain to compete. Oh wait, they still have Guillen calling the shots. No worries from this Tiger fan! FIRE MILLEN MANG! BIG AL FOR GM!

    The Sox are done before the season starts. I say trade away the whole team for prospects and build for 2010. No way we can compete in this division.

    At least we won’t be pulling a Cub and almost making it to the playoffs or actually making the playoffs and then being swept. No when the Sox ship goes down… she’s down and out. Kinda nice on the fan. No need to get worked up over nuthin’ year after year.

    Two things stand out here. Tigers fans better hope they win it all in the next two seasons because they basically traded away their entire farm system for these veterans. Also, how are they going to beat the Red Sox if they officially make the trade for Santana? As good as the Tigers look on paper now, the BoSox look like they’ll have the best pitching staff in the last 10 or 15 years!

    The Tigers did trade 5 of their top 10 prospects according to Baseball Prospectus. But they still have Rick Porcello, whom they drafted last year. He has been tabbed “the perfect prospect”. But he chose Boras for his agent and instead of going 1 or 2 fell to Detroit at 27. So they still have one of, if not the best pitching prospects in their system.

    dhaab, Dombrowski has a history of landing prospects that other teams won’t sign. How? He basically has a blank checkbook which allows him to pick up the high-dollar players. He just waits for players to slide down, and he grabs them. FWIW, I thought the goal in baseball was to win the World Series, ASAP. That’s what the Tigers are going for. Belive me, if St. Louis had anything even close to what the Tigers had to offer in this deal, they would have pulled the trigger in a second. I also agree with the Zoner. Willis and Cabrera, while conidered “veterans” are hardly old. It’s not like they signed Roger Clemens.

    I never said that Cabrera and Willis aren’t talented, PB. I’m just offering a counter opinion. It’s just what I do. Someone has to keep these rose-colored Cubs fans in line. After all, the offseason is their favorite time of the year. ;)
