Good Morning, MLB Fans
The Orioles 1-2-3 hitters — Brian Roberts, Adam Jones and Nick Markakis — combined to go 9-12 with 2 homers, 6 RBI and 6 runs scored. Danys Baez pitched 3 hitless, scoreless innings of relief for the win. The O’s need more solid pitching performances — badly. No team in all of MLB has allowed more runs. After a hot 6-2 start, the O’s are just 9-10.
The Phillies are now over the .500 mark thanks to a strong outing by Jamie Moyer and big games by Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz. Moyer pitched 6 innings and gave up only one run for his 3rd victory of the year. Victorino was 2-5 with a double and 4 RBI, while Feliz drove in 2 with 3 hits and a walk. That’s 3 in a row for the champs.
Here’s the “Line of the Night”, from the Mets Oliver Perez:
Perez is just killing the Mets. His WHIP is almost 2 and he has given up 20 runs in just 19 1/3 innings. Yesterday it was the Nationals turn to pound on him. Jesus Flores and Austin Kearns homered as the Nats won it 8-1. Flores is off to a fantastic start, hitting .327/.393/.490.
The Rays are having a rough April. They lost to the A’s 7-1 and they are in last place in the AL East with a 7-12 record. Andy Sonnanstine was rocked again for 7 runs on 10 hits in just 4 innings, and the Rays could muster only 4 hits against Dana Eveland, who entered the game with a 7.36 ERA. Sonnanstine is now 0-3 with a 7.78 ERA. Nomar Garciaparra had 4 hits and 4 RBI in the series.
Jay Bruce homered twice and Joey Votto drove in 3 with 2 doubles as the Reds improved to 10-8 with an 8-2 victory over the Braves. Micah Owings got his first victory of the season. Votto is hitting .371 and Bruce is up to .286. The Reds are 2 over .500 despite a -9 run differential.
Jason Marquis is 3-1 after the Rockies beat the Dodgers 10-4. Ryan Spilborghs hit his first homer of the season, Dexter Fowler had 3 hits and Clint Barmes drove in 2 with 2 hits including his 3rd homer. Colorado is still in last in the NL West.
The Angels pounded the M’s pitchers for 14 hits in an 8-0 win. Jered Weaver was spectacular, allowing just 3 hits and no runs over 7 innings. Howie Kendrick was 3-5 with a homer and 4 RBI. The Angels still occupy the cellar in the AL West.
