Ian Kinsler went 6-6 and hit for the cycle, Nelson Cruz hit his 5th home run of the season and the Rangers scored 19 runs in pounding the Orioles. Kris Benson got the win for Texas, his first since 2006.
Miguel Cabrera had 3 more hits, including a homer, as the Tigers shut out the White Sox 9-0. Mike MacDougal couldn’t find the plate again in relief of Jose Contreras. He gave up 4 runs on 3 walks and 3 hits over 2 innings. Armando Galarraga is now 2-0 and has allowed just one earned run in his 13+ innings this year.
Kyle Farnsworth was handed his second loss of the season and Kerry Wood got his first save as an Indian as the Tribe beat the Royals 5-4. The Farns has given up 6 runs in 4 games this year. Woody needed just 7 pitches to finish the game.
Tim Wakefield flirted with a no-no and ended up with a complete game win as the Red Sox beat the A’s 8-2. Wakefield was 5 outs away from an historic outing. He didn’t get the no-hitter, but the Red Sox needed that win. They move to 3-6.
Jason Marquis shut down his old club over 7 innings as the Rockies beat the Cubs 5-2. Marquis moves to 2-0. Rich Harden was bombed by Colorado and lasted just 3 innings. Seth Smith has two hit this year and they are both homers. He homered off Harden in the 3rd inning.
The Cardinals 3-4-5 hitters went 6-14 with a homer and 7 RBI as the Redbirds smoked Jon Garland and the D’Backs 12-7. Ryan Ludwick had the homer, his 3rd of the season.
The Yankees scored a run in the 8th to tie the game and one more in the 9th to beat the Rays 4-3. Troy Percival took the loss. Robinson Cano continued his hot start with his 2nd homer and a double. He’s hitting .382.
Scott Baker was tagged for 4 long balls in his season debut and the first-place Blue Jays beat the Twins 12-2.
Mike Hampton got his first win of the year by throwing 6 shutout innings, striking out 8. Miguel Tejada had 3 hits and Carlos Lee had 3 RBI as the Astros beat the Pirates 4-1.
