Good Morning, MLB Fans
Grady Sizemore hit a grand slam as Cliff Lee and the Indians beat the Yanks in the opener at their new stadium. CC Sabathia allowed 5 hits plus 5 walks but only 1 run in 5 2/3 innings.
John Danks struck out 8 in 6 innings and Jermaine Dye homered as the White Sox beat the Rays 3-2. The White Sox needed Danks’ stellar performance as they left 21 men on base. Josh Fields had 3 more hits and is hitting .355.
Cody Ross ended his cold start to the season by going 3-3 with a homer and 4 RBI as the Marlins beat the Braves 6-2. The Marlins have won 4 straight and are 8-1.
Chris Duncan soldified his stature as one of the worst fielders in the game, but homered off lefty Sean Marshall in the Cards 7-4 defeat of the Cubs. Duncan had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Khalil Greene and Brian Barden also homered for the Redbirds.
Hot-Hitting Nyjer Morgan doubled and tripled, but Lance Berkman hit a 3-run homer in the 6th to give the Astros the lead for good. Morgan is hitting .400, but the Pirates have lost 2 straight.
The Nats finally won a ballgame. They scored 3 in the first off of Phillies starter Joe Blanton, and that would be all they needed as they won 8-2. Adam Dunn hit his 3rd homer and Nick Johnson added 3 hits. Shairon Martis had quality start and got the win.
The Giants continue to be awful. Barry Zito was hammered for 6 runs in 5 innings and the G-Men lost to the Dodgers 7-2. Rafael Furcal homered for LA. Matt Kemp tripled and scored twice. He’s hitting .371.
Marco Scutaro was at it again. He doubled and homered as Roy Halladay shut down the Twins in a 9-2 victory. Halladay allowed just one run and struck out 8. That’s 2 in a row for the Jays who are 8-3 overall. The Twins bullpen wasted a good start by Francisco Liriano. He falls to 0-3.
