Good Morning, MLB Fans
Jonathan Sanchez got his first victory of the year as he combined with 3 relievers to shutout the D’ Backs. Dan Haren takes the loss and moves to 0-3 — with an ERA of 1.89. Arizona has scored a total of 1 run in his 3 starts. Fred Lewis had 2 more hits and a walk. He is hitting .419.
Break up the Marlins! Cody Ross homered in the 9th to tie the game at 2, and Jeremy Hermida hit a run-scoring, infield single in the 10th as the Marlins beat the Nats 3-2. John Lannan’s outstanding effort — 6 1/3, 1 run, 8 Ks — went for naught.
Is this the year of the cycle? Jason Kubel is the 3rd player of this young season to perform the feat. Kubel’s homer was a grand slam and the Twins beat the Angels 11-9.
The Yankees hit 5 solo homers to get past the Indians 6-5. Joba Chamberlain was rocked for 5 runs in just 4 2/3 innings. He allowed 6 hits and walked 5. Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano each hit their 3rd homers of the year.
The Pirates moved to .500 as Paul Maholm had another great outing. He threw 7 shutout innings and Matt Capps finished it off for his 3rd save. Pirates won it 3-0, and Maholm is now 2-0 with 0.87 ERA.
Brad Penny was shelled for 8 runs over 3 innings but Boston still beat Baltimore 10-8. Jason Bay and JD Drew each homered and Nick Green had 2 hits and 2 RBI. Nick Markakis doubled, homered and had 5 RBI for the O’s.
Gil Meche threw 6 shutout innings and Mark Teahen went 5-6 as the Royals beat Texas 12-3. Ian Kinsler had 2 hits and 2 steals. He already has 20 hits this year and is hitting .476. Josh Rupe isn’t long for the Ranger bullpen. He gave up 3 more runs last night, raising his ERA to 15.43. Rupe has given up 12 hits and 5 walks in just 4 2/3 innings.
The 1-2 punch of Marco Scutaro and Aaron Hill was not enough as the A’s beat the Blue Jays 8-5. Scutaro and Hill each hit their 4th homer of the season. But Bobby Crosby tripled, walked and drove in 3 runs as he started at 3rd Base for the A’s. Andrew Bailey struck out 4 over 2 innings for his 2nd win of the year.
