HOT STOVEAGE

3

It’s a win-win for the Red Sox. It looks as if Daisuke Matsuzaka will not sign a deal with the Red Sox. But either way the Sox kept him away from the Yanks. And the Sox still have a rotation that could be one of the best in MLB: Schilling, Beckett, Papelbon, Wakefield and Clement.

Does anyone pay for the ESPN insider? I don’t and I never would. They were promoting these goodies today:

“Neyer: Meche not worth what the Royals paid”. Ya think? Or how about this one:

“Whispers: QB Ramsey on Jets’ chopping block”. Wow. We should all pay for news about the Jets’ backup QB. Or not.

The Astros went out and got Jason Jennings. Jennings actually pitched better at home in Coors than away. And in the 2nd half last year, Jennings K’d 52 while walking 41. He’s solid but likely overrated. Of course, I don’t think the Astros gave up anything of value either.

I don’t know, Zoner. I think the Astros did give up something of value in Jason Hirsh, and I think he alone could be as good as Jennings this year. Time will tell.

Nothing of value? They just gave up two of their best pitching prospects and a solid outfielder for one year of Jason Jennings. I’d be chomping at the bit to get a prospect like Hirsh.

Yeah that was a little hirsh, I mean harsh. Hirsh is a decent prospect. But I don’t think much of Buchholz as a prospect and Taveras is a terrible offensive player save his speed. I don’t know how you define ‘solid’ but he is basically an outmachine.

I’m mostly happy that Ken Williams didn’t make this deal for Garland.
