IS HENDRY SERIOUS?
Ok. I think Jim Hendry is just saying stuff now. Because this is kind of ridiculous:
The (Jacque Jones) deal frees up center field for Felix Pie, though Hendry also mentioned Sam Fuld and even Ronny Cedeno as possible candidates.
Ronny Cedeno? Oh. My. He didn’t even get a fair shake at his regular position of shortstop. Now we are going to see him in center field? Cedeno is the poster child for the “How Not To Raise A Prospect” campaign.
I’m sure Cedeno is thrilled to hear he may still have a job, as the Infante trade pretty much guarantees he will be logging major miles from Iowa to minor league cities across the nation to Chicago and back, a process he is sure to repeat several times unless he leaves the organization.
But to think he can play center field is preposterous. He has absolutely no clue at the plate. To think he can learn a new position and be an effective hitter is plain goofy.
I’m also sure to be disappointed when Hendry re-signs Kerry Wood. It’s not that I don’t want Wood here, it’s just that I’m guessing he will be overpaid and overvalued, much like most of his tenure here in Chicago.
