IT IS A GOOD DEAL
Do I like the trade? Somewhat. Do I like the increased opportunities it brings Bulls’ GM John Paxson? Very much. And that’s why this trade is excellent.
Gooden and Hughes are not excellent players. To call them journeymen is probably accurate at this point. But they both can help the Bulls–on the floor or in other deals. The big harpage on one local sports radio show yesterday was “How does this deal bring the Bulls closer to a championship?” The answer is simple. You and I don’t know yet. But it clears a path.
What we do know is that this allows Thomas, Noah and even Aaron Gray to get more minutes. We know that with the acquisition of Hughes, Ben Gordon could be a sign and trade over the summer. We know the Bulls got a lot younger. We know they got better offensively. And we know that they got something for a player that I thought no team would even want.
There is quite a bit to be excited about if you are a Bulls fan. Are we closer to a championship today? Perhaps. But the road to get there opened up a bit. Now is the time for Pax to go to work.
