JAVIER VAZQUEZ ANALYSIS
I’m not sure why people are poo-pooing the [tag]Javier Vazquez[/tag] deal. I like it a lot. I’ll concede that the money is is insane, but that’s par for the course. To get a pitcher of his caliber to sign for only 3 years for “[tag]Gil Meche[/tag]” money is a coup for K-Dub and the [tag]White Sox[/tag].
Phil Rogers uses wins and losses to accentuate his point. That’s so 70′s. Vazquez played on some very bad Expos teams and a D’Backs club that lost 85 games.
I even read someone comparing Vazquez to [tag]Ted Lilly[/tag] and Gil Meche. For real? You can’t compare Lilly and Meche to Vazquez. Vazquez has almost 4-1 K/BB ratio and career WHIP around 1.25. He’s only 30 years old. Write him down for 32+ starts and over 200 IP. Meche and Lilly have NEVER pitched 200 or more innings in any single season. Vazquez has done it 6 times. Lilly and Meche have 4 CG each in their careers. Vazquez has more shutouts than that and 20 CGs. Looking at wins and losses is nonsense.
Williams is once again setting up the Sox to have quality starting pitching for the future. I’m not sure abut Floyd, but Gonzalez, Danks, Broadway and Haeger are all solid prospects.
