John Madden is taking a week off.

According to a Washington Post report, NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol first suggested a week off last spring, and Madden agreed 10 days ago.

“I still enjoy the travel, but you’d like to be home once in a while. I’ve got five grandchildren. It’s a quality of life issue,” Madden, 72, told the Post. “The 49ers and the Raiders not being good also has hurt, because you never get a home game. Even when L.A. had a team, I’d get to be home. When you see the grandkids, it’s like they’ve grown 2 feet.”

I know some people that suggested he take every week off. Anyhow, doesn’t this guy work like 20-22 weeks a year? And have a driver cart him around in the Madden Cruiser? Weak sauce.

So we get Collinsworth instead of Madden. They should have called Pat Summerall.
