MADDUX THROWS COMPLETE GAME

3

You might have missed the late box score, but Greg Maddux threw his 109th complete game last night. It was a vintage Maddux outing, needing just 96 pitches–and slightly over 2 hours–to put away the Reds. Maddux struck out 5, walked none and allowed just 5 hits. Maddux, always nifty with the bat, also got down 3 sacrifices.

Maybe Maddux just needed to get away from the Cubs. Since his trade to the Dodgers last year, Maddux has a 3.26 ERA over 20 starts. He’s allowed only 1 homer this year and has walked only 7 batters in over 50 innings. Last night was win #3 of the season for Maddux, and number 336 in his glorious career.

Probably one of the classiest guys in the game and one of the few in history who knows more than the guy coaching him. Its nice to see a guy who some think stayed too long still making strides well after he’s made his mark for the HOF.

Amen. My favorite pitcher of all-time.

And good to see him doing it now that he’s not with the Cubs. ;)
