MARK PRIOR: EX-CUB
So the Mark Prior era comes to an end in Chicago. It’s really sad. The can’t miss kid has done exactly that–turned into a huge bust.
There were some good times, to be sure, but more than that were the times of injury, of aggravation and of not knowing if he was really soft or actually hurt. Would he just not pitch with pain? We’ll never know.
But I can tell you what the Cubs think in letting Prior loose. They think he is done. There is no way at all they cut him–getting nothing in return– if they thought he could actually help them, if they thought he could comeback and resemble anything near the form of his dominance.
And now, every Cubs fan has in the back of their mind the terror of Prior actually doing that for another team. That would be a great baseball story, but another gutshot to add to the long list for Cubs fans.
Will Prior end up as our generation’s David Clyde or Mark Fidrych? Or perhaps our Dave Stewart? It will be interesting to see where he ends up and how he does. Might Dusty be calling?
