McHALE WILL RETURN TO T’WOLVES
The running joke when Andy MacPhail was leading the Cubs was that it was that it should be spelled ‘MacFail’. Perhaps T’Wolves fans use the same play on Kevin McHale.
McHale announced he will return to the T’Wolves next year–and so will Kevin Garnett.
“I don’t want to walk away with the team in this state. It was a bad season, there’s no other way you can say it. It was a bad year and I did a bad job. That’s the way it is.”, McHale said.
Garnett will enter the last year of his contract. It’s almost more likely we will see the Cubs win the World Series than Garnett returning to the T’Wolves with a new contract.
McHale has the T’Wolves in major problems. When they were 20-20 this season he fired Dwane Casey. They replaced him with Randy Wittman and went 12-30 the rest of the way, losing their last 7. They already have 12 players under contract for next year. Marko Jaric, Trenton Hassell, Mark Madsen, Mike James, Mark Blount and Troy Hudson are all Wolves until 2009 or beyond. Yikes.
They do have rookie Randy Foye, who ended the year very nicely, and a lottery pick. But not trading Garnett is just stupid, a move symptomatic of teams with GMs on one-year deals. He’s trying to win now. I guess. Good luck with that.
