MEDIA DAY? NO THANKS.

Children scurrying about acting as reporters. A woman in a wedding gown asking Tom Brady to marry her. Then asking Eli Manning to marry her. A man posing as an astrologer dressed in goofy garb claiming to predict the future.

This is “Media” day in the NFL prior to the biggest game of the year. No thanks.

The 2 weeks between the conference championships and the Super Bowl showcase the worst in sports ‘news’. Quick–name something of essence you recently learned from the countless stories about the game. Exactly.

With the exception of last year when the Bears were in the big game, the Super Bowl is a time-shifted event for me. I record it on the DVR and fly past the hubbub. I just want the game.

The wait is almost over. All the nonsense will subside and the Pats will thrash the Giants 38-17.

    I agree. I become ill over the cliched human interest stories that continue to make headlines as we get closer to the game.

    There is one who fought back from adversity to make it to the big stage, one who dedicates the game to his mom who worked four jobs to send him to State so he could have the opportunities she never did, one who is the grizzled vet who is grateful for the last chance to play in the big game before hanging em up, one who has been there before but this one is more special than the others, one who is used to the pressure but still finds a soundbyte worthy of the other team, one who isn’t intimidated and glad to have the moniker of underdog, one who needs to prove himself, one who has had a small time role but huge impact due to the intangibles he brings, and on and on it goes.

    I hate the Super Bowl. It’s a shame, because it could be a really great time.
