NFL Preseason Week 2: Cardinals at Packers
Arizona Cardinals @ Green Bay Packers Fri. Aug. 19, 2011 8 p.m. EST
The Arizona Cardinals were once a perennial playoff team with hopes of contending for a Super Bowl title with a future Hall of Famer under center in quarterback Kurt Warner and two of the league’s best wide receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin downfield. Even though the Cardinals were one of the best offensive teams in the NFL, Arizona were unable to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl and saw Warner retire just a year later.
Unfortunately, since the departure of Kurt Warner, the Arizona Cardinals haven’t been able to replace the perennial Pro Bowler under center and as a result the offense has suffered. Now the Cardinals have become one of the worst teams in the league with little or no hope for the future. Oddsmaker offers decent odds on this game and all pre-season matches.
Fortunately, the struggling NFL franchise was able to get their hands on a promising young quarterback via trade in the form of Kevin Kolb formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles. Kolb might not be the savior of the Cardinals, but he will definitely improve this team on the offensive side of the football and give Larry Fitzgerald a reason to stay in Arizona for the foreseeable future.
The Arizona Cardinals were able to get the best of the Oakland Raiders in their first preseason game with an impressive performance from Kevin Kolb, but they will face their first real test of the year against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers Friday night at Lambeau Field.
