NFL Preseason Week 2: Falcons at Jaguars

Atlanta Falcons @ Jacksonville Jaguars Fri. Aug. 19, 2011 8 p.m. EST

Last week the Atlanta Falcons started right where they left off last season in their first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. With Pro Bowler Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons’ first team firing on all cylinders, the consensus was that the Falcons were back on track and ready to compete with the best of the best once again, but then the second team dropped the ball and fell to the Dolphins, 28-23. Even though the Falcons lost to the Dolphins in their first preseason game, the outcome of their first matchup was pale in comparison to the performance of rookie wide receiver Julio Jones. The Atlanta Falcons were able to strike gold in the 2011 NFL draft by getting their hands on rookie wide receiver Julio Jones out of Alabama. This move came by complete surprise to many teams around the league that have been looking at Jones, but it was pure genius as the Falcons now have a perfect complement to Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez in the receiving corps.

With Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan now having three prime targets in the passing offense and running back Michael Turner coming out of the backfield, the Atlanta Falcons the sky is the limit for the potential of this potent offense. The defense is the only question mark for this team, but they even address that in the offseason by adding Ray Edwards in free agency.

On Friday night, Matt Ryan will try to get this high-powered offense on track against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars.
